Message	coat before applying to the VCs. Sometimes the look really changes once the clear coat is applied -- varies with the paint used. If applied properly it will come out fine -- fyi: I used an industrial type rattle can silver paint (from Lowes) on my TBs. They are bolted to a chromed plenum -- it's held up well and I never clear coated them either....
